History

Shree Rajaka Sangha was conceived in mid-forties of Twentieth century. A large majority of members of the Sangha hailed from the erstwhile South Kanara District which was then a part of Madras Presidency. Lack of avenues for socio-economic and educational development in the district made people from the area to migrate to then Bombay in search of better life. This is not only true of the members of the Rajaka Sangha but also true of others who came to Bombay from the District. The travel facilities from South Kanara to Bombay in those days were few and far between. The Sangha proudly record the fact that the members and their families smoothly got assimilated in the city of Mumbai; greatly contributing to the cultural and educational ethos of the city, side by side economic activities. Those who ventured in early part of twentieth century to Bombay had a great vision to conceive, form, nurture and guide the Sangha in its formative stages to its present shape and status.

Founders

The visionary Rajakas who started the Sangha way back in 1936, are not with us today. The Founders are Late Sarvashri Valalanke Lokayya K. Kunder, Valalanke K.B. Kunder, Adve Ellappa, Bailu Kookra, Ekkaru Chinnaya, Karnad Kalu, Kuthethuru Janardhan A Salian, Angi Hitlu Siddu, Kakka Chandu, Hermunde Kookra, Elluru Monappa P. Kunder, Bajpe Parameshwara, Karnad Cheenkra, Elluru Deju Kunder, Nitte Babu, Moodabidri P Gopal, Ekkaru Chandu, Padubidri Mahalinga and Ekkaru Ramayya, who all came together, conceived the idea and formed the Sangha, in the name and style of “Shree Rajaka Sangha”. Besides the founders, a large number of committed members have contributed enormously to the growth and enrichment of the Sangha to its present status. The foundation of the Sangha was reinforced greatly when late Sarvashri Kalappa A. Salian, Nagappa S. Kunder, M.D. Ishwar and Monappa K. Salian amongst others, joined and collectively, along with Founders, took concrete steps to formalize the organizational structure for the Sangha’s orderly future growth. Members of the Sangha have always given their unstinted support to the causes and objectives of the Sangha in different phases of its growth and development. Co-operative spirit, enthusiastic participation and cohesive working of the Sangha in the interest of achieving its objectives have been the remarkable hall-mark of its functioning. The initiative taken by these visionaries, seventy six years back, has been responsible in providing far reaching opportunities for the generations to come and provide a bonding platform to the members, to keep to their roots and culture in the great metropolis of Mumbai.
